Everclear's musical mediocrity is beside the point, since the article barely gives lip service to their music and instead focuses on the author's myopic personal view of one man's personality. And anyway, "Heroin Girl" was a good song, which gives Everclear one more good song than most of the bands in Portland. There's a reason the Northwest's musical heyday was never referred to as the "Portland Scene".

and really? you think it's valid to dislike a band because they got paid to play a gig for someone who's parents' politics you disagree with? I guess bands are only cool if they play free benefit shows for PETA or some such nonsense.

I suspect that if you're thinking of a dainty little girl in a Bo Peep outfit with a pink bow in her hair, that's not how this girl presented herself. If you want to be treated like a 12 year old instead of a gangsta girl, dress that way! Actually, if you take a swing at a cop, and especially if it connects, I think being bean-bagged at close range instead of something more serious, like a few heavy whacks on the noggin with a club, is doing you a favor. When the parents fail the child in terms of instilling some civil behavior, too often it's left to the authorities.

I just suspect that Dignity residents didn't seek to have an article written about your project. Was their privacy a consideration? If you can honestly say that there wasn't some intent to publicly pat yourselves on the back for your good deeds as well as get a thrill out of being quoted and photographed, then my hat is off to you. I enjoy volunteering, but you won't be reading about it in a newspaper article anytime soon. Dignity, folks.

      Nov 20, 2009
TO NICK FISH. See attached: “NO SECTION 8” (sic) income-based discriminatory rental ad at www.housing connections.org. Housing Connections ID: 7183.21089 Last Updated: 11/20/09.
After we elected you, you now opportunistically have reneged on your campaign promise to ban this precise discriminatory rental housing advertising practice. Yet more than 2 years into office, you your good ole boys at the Housing Authority of Portland (fellow attorney and Chairman Jeff Bachrach, Chair, HAP Board of Commissioners and Executive Director (former non-profit housing rehabber) Steve Rudman are instead engaging in political appeasement, dithering obsequesence and sycophantic groveling with the Metro M—F—Association. AKA holding private invitation only "task group" meetings
In a nutshell here’s the argument for why you should cease and desist further dithering and enabling of flagrant housing discrimination: the website housingconnections.org is funded by public tax dollars and is maintained by the City of Portland Housing Bureau. This owner-agent is declaring his/her preference to deny rental housing to potential applicants because they are section 8 voucher holders. THIS OWNER IS SCREENING OUT PERSONS EXCLUSIVELY BECAUSE THEY ARE “INCOME QUALIFIED” DUE SOLEY TO THEIR LOW INCOME OR EXTREMELY LOW INCOME STATUS, E.G. 30% TO 60% BELOW MEDIAN INCOME and participate in the federal HUD section 8 voucher program.
As an attorney you ought to know that under the express language of State of Oregon's Real Estate Practices law this landlord and his M MF brethren are committing income-based statutory discrimination . You, mr fish and et al, are, I allege, are intentionally and knowingly committing a 42 U.S.C. §1983 violation against section 8 voucher holders as state and local officials who while acting under color of state law are depriving said class of persons of a right secured to them by the constitution or federal law. Furthermore you and your city commissioner colleagues and the housing bureau people who reply to email inquires from this site by improperly are denying said persons the tangible pecuniary benefits of safe decent and affordable housing - and quite possibly, a meaningful alternative to homelessness.
I t is imperative that in your elected capacity that you insist that the City of Portland’s housing connections website IMMEDIATELY REMOVE THIS DISCRIMINATORY RENTAL AD. It is an unconscionable abdication of leadership and public policy failure for you personally to have neglected to enact an ordinance declaring that this city owned and operated rental advertizing website will not accept income-based discriminatory rental housing preferences from owners and management agents. The consequences of your personal brand of deceptive campaign rhetoric should be, rather than recall, the filing of a class action tort claims notice by section 8 voucher holders denied rental applications by owners-agents such as Kari LaForge 503 422-2936 wedge3682@comcast.net at the Maple Place Apartments at 2318 NE Multnomah St Housing Connections ID: 7183.21089 (Last Updated: 11/20/09) in conjunction with a Fair Housing Act investigative referral to HUD field office.
What is interesting, and quite telling, about the video is that Humphreys seems more than willing to let Ofc. Dauchy deal with the young woman one on one even though she is "indicating an intent to engage in physical resistance" (PPB's own words) from an early stage in the encounter. Humphreys, rather than assisting his partner in a 2 on 1 arrest and effecting a safe and quick custody, hangs back, does nothing, and allows the matter to escalate; thus providing the justification for the bean bag.
Thin Blue Line or not, if I were Humphrey's partner, I'd seriously call into question his ability to truly watch my back.
I had a sandwich here today and it was SOO GOOD! The la capresse or something . . . mozarella, tomato, pesto . . . delicious grilled sandwich! They made it perfectly! While everything else in inner Southeast Portland is like a billion dollars this sandwich, delicious, fresh, hot, along with kettle chips was under five bucks. I also had the hemp milk latte because I'd never had one and I wanted one, and it wasn't very good BUT I asked the server for his honest opinion before I got it and he said they weren't very good but I still wanted to try it, so that's my fault not theirs. I look forward to trying some of their other coffees! And sandwiches! They have such a big menu! I want to go here every day! And the people were so nice, none of that "I am sooo cool I can't even look at you because I am just like the hippest shit" they were just friendly.

First, Reymont, I use my real nme, even if you don't!! As to Humphreys, looking at his record, he's a loose cannon waiting to kill an innocent again, and I hope it's not someone YOU know, actually, I hope it doesn't happen. Second, if a vest will stop a slug, how much can you fell if you get slapped or punched in the vest? Ya know, I respect the majority of the people who wear the uniform and pledge to protect and serve, but I don't respect bullies. As for baristas, they don't expect people to fight with them over their coffee, but when you take the oath, you should know that you are going to have to deal with a lot of different people at their worst, seems to be part of the job. I just think there are more effective ways of dealing with it than shooting or beating it to death
